ABOVE THE WATER
Avillion Layang Layang is an island resort located to the north west of Sabah in the South China Sea, reached by charter flight from Kota Kinabalu. It is a coral atoll lying in the Spratly Islands and rises out of waters 2000m deep. There is just one resort on the entire island as well as an airstrip for acess to other areas.
BELOW THE WATER
The visibility is so good here that you’ll want to keep an eye on your depth gauge, regularly 40-60 metres. In March and May you have an excellent chance of seeing schooling hammerheads. If you’re a fan of fans (so to speak!), don’t miss the beautiful Gorgonian Forest, where hundreds of yellow and orange fans line the walls. Bring a torch so you can see the beautiful colours. Dogtooth Lair is another epic dive site, where all manner of pelagic animals can be seen, and even sunfish have been spotted here.
