Cocos (Keeling) Islands

ABOVE THE WATER

The Cocos (Keeling) Islands are located in the Indian Ocean, directly south of Burma and the western tip of Indonesia. A territory of Australia, the 27 islands sit on top of a volcanic seamount surrounded by pristine gardens of hard, soft and fan corals. Only 2 of the 27 islands are inhabited and combined, have a population of about 600 people. 80% of the locals are Cocos Malay, and speak a Cocos dialect of Malay, although English is widely spoken.

There is plenty to do on these beautiful untouched islands. If it’s a tranquil getaway you’re seeking; spending your days relaxing on empty beaches, watching incredible birdlife, learning about the culture and traditions on Home Island of the Cocos Malay locals or exploring the uninhabited islands by canoe. If it’s a bit more adventure and excitement that you’re after, try your hand at diving, snorkelling, kitesurfing, fishing, stand-up paddle boarding and more!
