ABOUT TULAGI DIVE

Tulagi Dive – Shop
Tulagi Dive is the only dive operator in Tulagi and has direct access to the world-famous Iron Bottom Sound. The shop has recently relocated from Tulagi and is now located Point Cruz Yacht Club in Honiara making it in the perfect location to cover both sides of Iron Bottom Sound – Honiara and Tulagi. The knowledgeable team will take you exploring on the Iron Bottom Sound – a diving mecca with a myriad of dive sites aptly named as a result of the number of ships and aircraft that were lost in the area during world war II in the area. The real depth of the sound is 2000m meaning many wreck remain un-discovered however the list of wrecks that can be dived is incredible!
The crew at Tulagi dive have appropriate gear for all levels of divers including tec diving. They have a number of courses for you to be able to improve your diving on and have an extensive knowledge of the area meaning you won’t miss any of the good stuff.

DIVING
The warm waters of Tulagi are home to an abundant assortment of marine life inhabiting excellent coral gardens, reef encrusted walls and drop-offs. Expect to be shadowed by schooling baitfish, dog tooth tuna, blue fin trevally, Spanish mackerel and barracuda. Search closely among the vast brightly coloured coral gardens and you’ll be sure to find a prolific collection of macro life. Take a look behind you and you might just see grey reef sharks, white tip reef sharks and black tip reef sharks gliding by! Finally, keep an eye out for the odd turtle and manta ray as well!

Tulagi Dive – i1 Submarine
Reefs however are not the main attraction in Tulagi! The vast number of wrecks in the Iron Bottom Sound in Tulagi, Honiara and Buena Vista provide a diving wonderland for rust lovers. See below for a small sample of the Tulagi wreck dives.
USS Aaron
The USS Aaron Ward sunk in April, 1943 as a result of a Japanese air raid and can now be found in 60-70 metres of water sitting upright on the bottom. She is 348 metres long and offers a number of dives including the bow, stern, torpedo tubes and cabins. It will take a few dives to see the wreck comfortably however you could do 100+ dives and still find you want to do more! The visibility in the area is 20-30 metres and for many, this is a world favourite dive!
USS Kanawha

Tulagi Dive – USS Kanawha Stern
The Uss Kanawha sunk April, 1943 when she was hit by a Japanese air raid. Originally a supply vessel for the US marines, she now lies in 60 metres of water and is a fantastic example of how ships can become artificial reefs! The marine life surrounding her is prolific and groups of small schooling fish decorate her.
RNZN Moa
The RNZN Moa sun in April of 1943. She was hit by 3 bombs sunk to the bottom in 7 minutes. She now lies in 36-42 metres of water and is great to explore. As a result of sediment the visibility around this particular wreck can be poor.
