Scuba Ventures – Wreck Diving
DIVING
Papua New Guinea offers some of the most pristine and diverse diving. Diving can be done all year round with water temperatures consistently around 30 degrees. Expect close encounters with pelagics, drifts along plunging walls, a myriad of photogenic macro life, spectacular drop-offs and deep passage entrances! Fresh water cave dives are also available for those suitably qualified and experienced, but must be organised in advance. See a small sample of some of the dive sites below:
Wreck: Der Yang
Der Yang, once a Taiwanese fishing vessel is now an incredible artificial reef. She sits in 30m on top of Echuca Patch, a large coral ridge. She is covered in widespread brightly coloured soft coral, hard corals and sponges. As a result, there is an abundance of marine life in the surrounding waters. See schooling barracuda, tropical reef fish, and the occasional passing pelagic.
Reef: Namnamin

Scuba Ventures – Coral Reef

Scuba Ventures – Coral Reef
This dive site is named after a legendary shark that is believed ti live under one of the ledges of the wall. It is said that if the Nusa Islanders are to get lost at nights whilst fishing, Namnamin will help them. Starting at 8m, the reef drops to 22 m with numerous overhangs, gorgonian fans, black coral trees and coral whips. It is a popular site for macro lovers with regular spottings of spindle cowries, Zanzibar shrimp and nudibranchs.
Cave: Liga Onui
This large cave system has immaculately decorated chambers and has a maximum depth of 16 meters. As you dive downwards, you move from fresh water to salty. You will notice a refraction similar to a thermocline that can be seen in the ocean when there are two distinct layers of water with different temperatures. With average visibility of about 40 metres, Liga Onui (meaning place of drinking water) makes for an incredible dive!
