Meet the ponderous Mola Mola

This fish is known as a sunfish, mola mola or moonfish and is the largest bony fish in the world (sharks and rays are larger but are known as cartilaginous)! They can grow over 2,000 kilograms and live up to 10 years of age. These very relaxed fish are often found basking in the sun near the surface and they way of swimming is often described as unnatural and clumsy.

As you can see in the video, they are quite curios creatures and are actually checking out these divers just as much as they are him (although he doesn’t have the luxuries of arms and a camera!) Their population is still quite stable regardless of their ponderous way of life, with its main threat being human pollution.
