Nuku’alofa is the capital city of Tonga, on the island of Tongatapu. This is the administrative centre for Tonga and is where the Royal Family lives. You will fly into Nuku’alofa when you reach Tonga, and spend at least one night before departing for the other island groups. It is worth staying a few more days however with a surprising number of excellent restaurants, and the Royal Palace that has become a symbol of Tonga. Try to stay a weekend, visiting the markets on Saturday morning and Church on Sunday to hear the amazing choirs sing.
