New Zealand’s Bay of Islands is a subtropical micro-region well known for its spectacular beauty and fascinating history.  Located to the northeast of the country’s North Island, the Bay of Islands comprises of more than 140 subtropical islands with underdeveloped beaches, adventurous water activities and cultural artefacts.  The Bay of Islands is regarded as the birthplace of New Zealand and provides an insight into the Maori culture and European settlement.  The region is well known for an abundant array of wildlife including marine mammals and native bird life.  With such an expanse of bush and farmland, the land is adored and explored through walks all year round.

Seen as paradise for those who enjoy beaches and water activities, the Bay of Islands is teeming with marine life below the water.  It is regarded as one of the best places in New Zealand for viewing migrating whales and fascinating dolphins, while fur seals and penguins also make a regular appearance.  Home to many species of tropical fish and the famous Rainbow Warrior and HMNZS Canterbury wrecks, there lies an underwater adventure for divers in the Bay of Islands.
