Maldives
The Maldives, located 400 miles south-west of Sri-Lanka, are formed by a series of coral atolls distributed longitudinally near the equator for a length of 450 miles. From the reef, small beautiful islands emerge covered with lush vegetation and bordered by a fine white sand and crystal waters of the lagoons. In the warm, clear waters of the Maldives it is possible to see Mantas, Whale Sharks, valleys of luscious corals, gardens of delicate corals, 100 kilo tunas, Eagle Rays, 1,000’s of different species of fish around the reefs, and countless species of invertebrates. A true adventure in paradise. Shopping stopover's in either direction in Singapore are easily arranged.
CLIMATE: The Maldives have a tropical climate with warm temperatures year round , averaging 29 degrees Celsius daily. Ocean water temperatures rarely vary beyond 27-30 degrees Celsius. Monsoon season is from May to October. The best time to travel is from November to April.
CURRENCY: The local unit of currency is the Rufia however US Dollars are the most commonly accepted currency. One Australian Dollar is approximately 0.90 US Dollar .
DRESS: Light, casual clothing is all that is recommended for this hot, tropical climate.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Australian and US passengers will require a passport which is valid for at least six months beyond intended stay. A visa is not required for Australian or US passport holders staying under 30 days.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Refer to your doctor for the latest medical recommendations and inoculations.
LANGUAGE: The local language is Dhivehi, however English is spoken at all resorts and tourist areas.
